The Endocannabinoid System
is a naturally occurring biological system involved in regulating a variety of physiological processes throughout the body. This system works through activation of the CB1 and the CB2 receptors. Once activated by either a naturally-occurring endocannabinoid or a phytocannabinoid (plant-based cannabinoid) they trigger a biological response within the body. CBD works indirectly on these receptors by preventing the breakdown anandamide which is the naturally occurring endocannabinoid responsible for activation of the CB1 and CB2 receptors.
